Despite a valiant attempt in their final regular-season contest, the York University men's basketball team fell 80-70 to the Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday night at Tait McKenzie Centre.
With the loss, the Lions fall short in clinching a playoff seed, finishing at sixth place in the OUA East Division with a record of 5-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Prior to the final regular-season game, York commemorated its five graduating athletes including Prince Kamunga, Sukhjot Kalsi, Brendon Chevannes, Chevon Brown and Yacine Loe with plaques honouring their time spent at York.
- Both squads got off to a tight start, trading baskets back-and-forth. The first quarter would close off with the Blues leading 23-20.
- In the second quarter, the Blues quickly pulled away with a 9-0 run and took a 38-27 lead heading into halftime.
- The third and fourth quarters followed a similar trend, with the Blues controlling the lead for the duration of both quarters. Eventually, the Lions were able to cut the deficit to 64-61 early in the fourth quarter when they went on a 7-0 run which was ignited by a Somto Dimanochie jump shot. Soon after the Blues responded with another 7-0 run which will put the Lions away 78-71.
