The York University Lions men's hockey team dropped a contest 9-1 against the Rams Wednesday evening at Canlan Ice Sports, dropping their regular season record to 5-8-2.
Despite the loss, the Lions still control their own OUA playoff destiny. They can clinch their berth to the OUA playoffs in their final regular season game against the Rams, which is set for Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Prior to the team's final regular-season home game against the Rams, two graduating Lions were honoured. Dalton Ewing and David Sherman were recognized and presented with plaques commemorating their time at York.
- Four minutes into regulation, and Chris Playfair wasted no time opening the scoring on a deflection of a point shot through the five hole of Lions goaltender Cole Ceci.
- Not long after, Aleks Dimovski and Kevin Gursoy both added two more quick tallies within seconds of each other to force a Lions timeout and grab a 3-0 lead.
- Brock McLeod responded with the Lions' only goal of the game, putting the Lions on the board at 10:50 with an assist from Braydon Buziak and CJ Clarke.
- The Rams would control the play from then on, adding to their lead to take a 7-1 lead after 40 minutes and two power play markers in the third to seal it.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions don't have to travel too far in search of their season-defying contest once again with the Rams at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. A victory against the Rams on Saturday, Mar. 12 can mean a ticket to the OUA playoffs. The puck-drop is scheduled for 4 pm.
