Playoff rematches and rivalry renewals are scattered all over the York University Lions men's hockey schedule in 2022-23. The OUA's release of the 27-game calendar features the Lions going to work against a rival early on in the season.
They will begin their season by facing off against the newly rebranded crosstown rival from Toronto Metropolitan University on Oct. 14, when TMU travels up the Don Valley Parkway to Canlan Ice Sports for the Lions home opener.
York began last year with a trip to Thunder Bay, Ont. to face the Lakehead Thunderwolves, taking five out of a possible six points to begin the season on a high note. They will return to the Superior shores for a similar early-season road trip this season, attempting to duplicate their success with their first two road games of the year on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 at Fort William Gardens.
Later on in the fall season, the Lions will renew acquaintances with some of their 2021 playoff foes. The Brock Badgers, York's semi-final opponent, comes to Canlan for the first of a home-and-home Nov. 4 at 7 pm before the teams reunite 24 hours later at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Lions got to the semi-final by playing the road warrior role against the top-seeded Windsor Lancers in the first round of the playoffs. This year, they'll have to defend home ice. Windsor comes into York University's Keele campus for a back-to-back, beginning Nov. 18.
