LAKEHEAD USES THREE-BALL TO TAKE SECOND CONSECUTIVE WIN OVER YORK

The York University men's basketballl team dropped a 94-81 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday night at Tait McKenzie Centre.

It wasn't all bad for the Lions however, as Somto Dimanoche's double-double gave him the Lions lead in scoring with 25 points, as well as rebounds with 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Thunderwolves displayed an energetic start to the game, causing the Lions problems on the offensive side of the ball. Lakehead took advantage of York turnovers in their half and transitioned quickly making several shots from beyond the arc. The quarter ended 29-15 for the visitors from Thunder Bay, Ont.
  • York did have a response offensively when the second quarter began. Elias Panagiotopoulos opened the quarter with two consecutive threes within 30 seconds of each other to rile up the Lions. Then, just minutes later, Panagiotopoulos drained another shot from beyond the arc for York. He would finish the game with those three three-pointers. The Lions managed to cut the Thunderwolves lead to 12 at halftime.
  • Right at the beginning of the second half, Dimanoche scored four points in a row to cut the lead down to eight and get his team back into the game.
  • But Lakehead used the three-ball to re-gain the advantage. Laoui Msambya helped Lakehead establish a 15 point lead after a fantastic pass back to Eric Gonzalez was good for a three. The quarter ended 72-58.
  • York did their best to get level with the Thunderwolves but couldn't overcome the point differential established in the first quarter, and the game ended 94-81.
