SECOND & THIRD QUARTERS LIONS UNDOING IN LOSS TO MUSTANGS

The York University Lions men's basketball team led by seven after one, but were outscored 61-32 over the next two quarters in a 101-89 loss to the Western Mustangs on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Somto Dimanochie led the way for the Lions for the Lions in the first with 11 points. The Lions took charge early on, playing well on both sides of the ball. They ended the first quarter up 28-21.
  • The next two quarters were a completely different story for York in all aspects of the game. The Mustangs were able to score seemingly at will, shooting 54% in the second and third quarters. The Lions, meanwhile, were unable to get anything kickstarted offensively, as they shot just 36% from the field over that span.
  • That's what turned the game on its head. York went from leading by seven after one to down by 22 at the end of three.
  • The fourth quarter for the Lions was much the same as the first, as they started to find a rhythm offensively once again, while digging in defensively. That said, the hole they dug themselves in the middle two frames was too much to overcome, as they fell to the Mustangs by a 101-89 count.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will stay out West and battle the Windsor Lancers on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set at 4:00PM.
