The York University Lions men's basketball team resumed their 2022-23 season in their first road contest of the new year Wednesday night at the Goldring Centre against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Â
Despite
Somto Dimanochie's 28-point performance, the Varsity Blues took charge in the second half, and ultimately came away with a 93-72 victory.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions started off on the right foot, pulling together an early 8-1 run in the first three-minutes of action. With a 7-0 run of their own, the Varsity Blues quickly responded and tied the game at eight.Â
- Â The Blues with a hot-hand maintained their momentum throughout the first as they found themselves on another 9-0 run. With seven seconds left on the shot clock, Dimanochie responds to make it a four-point game with a powerful layup over the white jerseys while taking contact to convert the possession into a successful three-point play.Â
- The Blues continued their stride into the second quarter, as they led the frame in double-digits, outshooting the Lions 22-15 taking a 41-30 edge at halftime.
- The second half played out in favour of the Blues, as they continued to solidify their advantage.Â
- Despite Prince Kamunga's 15-point third quarter performance, it proved to be insufficient to overcome the Blues 29-18 advantage in the final quarter, as the Lions were unable to pave their way back into the game.Â
