LIONS EDGED BY TMU IN NARROW LOSS

Despite a well-contested affair, the York University Lions men's basketball team came up short against the TMU Bold Saturday evening at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

In spite of a game-high 29-point performance by Prince Kamunga, York fell short 83-72, dropping their record to 1-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams got underway in a back-and-forth battle with both squads maintaining the game within reach with the Bold leading 18-16 at the end of the opening quarter.
  • The second frame got underway in a similar fashion with both teams exchanging baskets keeping it a tight contest. It wasn't until the Bold went off on a 13-4 run with 2:06 remaining on the shot clock that they pushed their lead to 35-23.
  • Kamunga responded for the Lions by scoring five points in the final 23 seconds, as he connected for a quick jump shot and a buzzer-beating three-pointer trimming the lead to 35-28 at halftime.
  • Kamunga kept up his surge in the third quarter, tallying the Lions opening eight points to cut the margin to 40-36 in the early three minutes.
  • He then ignited the Lions momentum, as the squad went off for an 11-0 run to put them up 53-44 with 3:21 remaining in the quarter. Not long after, Lamar Everd responded for the Bolds, netting 9 of the last 13 points in the final three minutes, giving TMU a three-point advantage heading into the final frame.
  • The Lions put up a valiant effort in the closing quarter, attempting to match the Bolds' intensity, but came up short. TMU went on to outshoot the Lions 26-18 in the game's closing 10 minutes, en route to an 83-72 victory.
