LIONS FALL TO CROSSTOWN RIVAL BLUES AT VARSITY ARENA

The York University Lions women's hockey team dropped their opening game following the holiday break by a score of 3-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Olivia Hilton opened the scoring on the Blues second shot of the game to give Toronto the lead on the power play after a check to the head call on the Lions.

  • The Blues extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second after a pass in front goal by Nikki McDonald was put home by Sophie Grawbarger.

  • The Blues scored their second of the second late in the period a 5-on-3 situation as Grawbarger scored again to extend the lead to 3-0.

  • The Lions had their best showing in the final 20 minutes after registering just four shots on goal through two periods, but it wasn't enough as Madeline Albert completed the shutout for U of T.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will hope to get back on the right track when they return home for their first home game of 2023 to face the Nipissing Lakers at  2:15pm from Canlan Ice Sports.
