The York University Lions field hockey team made the short trek downtown on Saturday afternoon for the back half of their home-and-home against the Toronto Varsity Blues from the Back Campus Fields.
The Lions were looking for the sweep after earning a 3-1 win on home turf on Wednesday. The Blues, meanwhile, were looking for revenge on their home field, not only for Wednesday's defeat but also the Lions 2022 OUA championship win which took place on the very same pitch.
And revenge they got. A pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes were the difference, as Toronto took it 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- First, McKinley Kennedy put the home team on the board just two minutes in as she beat Jade Lew That made it 1-0.
- Then, with five minutes left in the first period, Alicia Lung found the back of the net off a penalty corner to double the Toronto lead.
- The Lions were unable to crack Varsity Blues goalkeeper Prabhnoor Manget, who earned the shutout in a 2-0 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions next action comes next Saturday when they travel to Kingston to battle the Queen's Gaels at 1:00 pm.
