The York University Lions women's hockey team is looking ahead to this weekend where they will face the Waterloo Warriors and the Guelph Gryphons. After a slower beginning to their regular season and dropping their home opener, the Lions are keen on racking up some points this weekend.
On Friday evening, the Lions played their home opener at Canlan Ice Sports against the Toronto Varsity Blues. In what looked to be a game that could go either way after the first period, the Blues dominated the Lions in the second. They capitalized on a turn over just 27 seconds into the second period, following up with two more unanswered goals to end the second period 3-0. The Lions tried to bounce back in the third period with a goal from
Jillian Milligan, however their efforts were shut down there and they were defeated 3-1.
The Lions were hopeful to rebound at home again on Saturday night against the Brock Badgers. The game started out in the similar fashion to Friday with neither team finding the back of the net in the first. The Badgers hustled at the start of the second to jump on a loose puck in front of
Dominique Chuaqui, giving the visitors the 1-0 lead into the third period. Brock doubled their lead five minutes into the third period, and went on to win 2-0.
