In a matchup that bore several resemblances to their last night's encounter with the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the York University Lions women's basketball team faced another setback in the second half of a weekend doubleheader.
Despite an eventful Saturday evening, the Lions ultimately fall short, 68-62, at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse in Thunder Bay, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions kicked off the opening quarter with hot hands, surging ahead with a 16-6 run with 2:49 left on the clock. Nonetheless, the lead was short-lived, as the Thunderwolves countered with a 10-2 run of their own, trimming the advantage to 18-16 by the end of the quarter.
- In the second quarter, as the Lions maintained a 35-31 lead with 3:18 remaining, the Thunderwolves, once again, harnessed their momentum, embarking on a 12-4 run that saw them seize a 43-39 edge as the halftime buzzer sounded.
- The Thunderwolves sustained their momentum as the second half unfolded, and the Lions endeavoured to keep pace, tallying 14 points to the Thunderwolves' 16 in the third quarter.
- Despite an even fourth-quarter performance from both teams, with Kiara Leveridge contributing seven of the Lions nine points, it wasn't sufficient to rein in the Thunderwolves, who secured a 68-62 victory while defending their home court.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The search continues, as the Lions will return home in hopes of securing their first win of the season, when they host the Western Mustangs on Friday, Nov. 17 at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
