Having scored in every period, the York University women's hockey team secured their third win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the OUA West Division-leading, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday night.
This successful outing at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex improved York's record to 3-6, now sitting with a .500 record in the East Division.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions established their presence in the Golden Hawks territory first, as Sydney Paulson made no mistake in putting the puck past Laurier's netminder, Acadia Carlson, converting it to a 1-0 lead at 9:29. Dominating the opening period, the Lions outshot the Golden Hawks 12-7 and maintained their 1-0 advantage until the period's closure.
- At the 14:22 mark, in the midst of a penalty kill situation for the Lions, Lexy Anonech takes control of the puck, beating Carlson and successfully notching her first goal of the season to double the visitor's lead.Â
- Just three minutes into the final period, Kaitlin Teixeira adds more assurance to the Lions lead, as she nets her third goal of the season on a power play to cushion a 3-0 advantage.
- However, Emerie Maltby of the Golden Hawks managed to navigate her way through the red and white jerseys, successfully finding the back of the net to put Laurier on the scoresheet at the 7:13 mark and trimming the deficit to 3-1.
- With York outshooting Laurier 30-19 in the contest, the Golden Hawks were unable to mount a comeback, thus falling short 3-1.
