LIONS WIN AT HOCKEYFEST AGAINST WARRIORS

The York University Lions women's hockey team hit the road to face the Waterloo Warriors for the 2023 HockeyFest match hoping to maintain their winning streak after defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks last Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sydney Hiltz was quick to put the Lions on the scoreboard at 2:40 in the first period.
  • In the second period, Sydney Paulson quickly took control of the puck and gave York an edge just 30 seconds in. Following Paulson's goal, Jennifer Shaw made a tricky shot at the 7th minute, giving the Lions a leg up over the Warriors, 3-1.
  • During the third period, Lola Massey shot York's tiebreaker less than 10 seconds into the period, making it 4-3 against the Warriors.
  • Despite the power play period for the Warriors, York's Julia Cuccia found the back of the net with a short-handed goal during the 18th minute. This was followed by Natalie Mamone shooting another short-handed goal mere seconds later, making the game in favour of the Lions with a score of 6-3.

LOOKING AHEAD:

With the win, the Lions marked their fourth win of the season, maintaining their current win streak. The team is hitting the road to Oshawa to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Thursday, November 23. Puck drop slated at 7:00 p.m.
