The York University Lions women's basketball team hosted the Waterloo Warriors in their season, and home opener Friday evening. A young team still working on adapting to each other and their style of play, the Warriors defeated the Lions 73-57.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game started out physical with both sides putting up a fight in the opening quarter.
- The Warriors lead the first 17-10, collecting 13 total rebounds, each team committing five fouls.
- Bilan Khadar and Katie Leudy led the way for the Lions in the second quarter, trailing by 12 points going into the second-half of the game 36-24.
- The Warriors came out quick to start the third quarter, while the Lions offense was slow to produce giving Waterloo a 14-point lead heading into the final quarter of action.
- Kiara Leveridge's 16 points for the Lions was not enough to secure the lead, and a second-half comeback attempt from York was disrupted by the Waterloo offense.Â
- The Warriors defeated the Lions in the opening game 73-57.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions travel to St. Catherines Saturday, Nov. 4 to take on the Brock Badgers in their first away contest of the 2023-24 season. The game tips-off at 6:00pm.
