YORK FALL TO GRYPHONS 4-0 ON THE ROAD

The York University women's hockey returned to the road to face the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon. After a successful Friday night victory against the Waterloo Warriors, securing their first win of the 2023-24 season, York was hopeful to secure their second.

York rookie Kaitlin Teixeira has been off to a quick start for the Lions, scoring her second goal of the season in their 2-1 victory over the Warriors on Friday evening. With a long season ahead of the first-year forward, she has been a promising offensive force for the Lions thus far.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game started out on the slower side with neither team creating many chances in front of their opposition's goal. The first period finished off scoreless with shots in favour of the Gryphons 6-3.
  • The second period opened similar to the first, with Guelph starting to pick up their intensity. Reese Coffey scored the first goal of the game fpr the Gryphons against Emma Wedgewood nine minutes into the middle frame, and within three minutes, Guelph was leading 3-0.
  • The Lions held off the Gryphons throughout the final period of action until Guelph broke free once again with three minutes remaining int he game to secure the 4-0 victory on home ice.

The Lions will welcome the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks to Canlan Ice Sports on Friday, Nov. 10 for their OUA Pride game. The puck drops at 7:15 pm.
