The York University Lions men's basketball team welcomed the Ottawa Gee-Gees to the Tait McKenzie Centre, looking to continue their winning streak after securing their fourth victory of the season against the Varsity Blues. Despite an honourable fight from the Lions, the Gee-Gees were able to secure the win with a strong fourth quarter.

The game commenced with the Ottawa Gee-Gees asserting an early lead in the first quarter, but critical contributions from various York players, including Tyler Pryce, Kevin Mervart, Alexis Kayonga, and Elias Panagiotopoulos continuously worked the Gee-Gee defence. The Lions' persistence paid off as they closed the gap to 18-17 with a point jump shot by Pryce. This detailed effort from the Lions' roster showcased their determination to challenge the Ottawa Gee-Gees' early dominance.

After a closely contested first quarter, both teams were ready to get a leg up right before halftime. The stakes were high as Ottawa was 7-0 overall in the season and was looking to continue their undefeated win streak, whereas York, 4-4 overall, was looking to break their win-lose tie. Evan Shadkami's impactful 2-point jump shot momentarily boosted the Lions to 18-20. Josh Noton's exceptional performance included pivotal moments, such as securing two 1-point free throws and tightening the score to 23-22. Travon Hamilton's brilliant play continued to inspire, contributing a memorable 3-point jump shot, expanding the Lions' tally to 33-28. Despite commendable efforts from Mervart, Ottawa managed to regain the lead, ultimately concluding the quarter with a 42-35 advantage over the Lions.

In a gripping third quarter, the Lions surged forward in a quest for redemption after the halftime break. Shadkami led the charge with a series of impressive shots, including a clutch 3-point jump shot that brought the score to 49-44. Notably, Josh Noton and Travon Hamilton's consistent scoring kept the Lions in contention, with Noton closing the gap to 62-60. However, the quarter concluded with the Gee-Gees maintaining a 66-60 lead over the Lions.

In a thrilling final stretch, both teams fiercely defended their ground, resulting in limited offensive opportunities. Josh Noton brought the team within reach with a 3-point jump shot, narrowing the gap to 68-63. Despite the Lions' remarkable efforts, they struggled to close the gap in the remaining five minutes. The game concluded at 86-75 after Shadkami's two successful free throws.
