LION PUSH NOT ENOUGH TO DEFEAT THE VISITING GEE-GEES

The York University Lions women's basketball team hosted the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Tait McKenzie Centre, aiming to extend their winning streak. Despite strong efforts from many of the Lion athletes, the Gee-Gees ultimately take the win and extend their record to 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game started out slow for the Lions as they fought to break the ice against a strong Ottawa defence.
  • Kiara Leveridge and Katy Leudy helped in keeping the Lions within 3 at the end of the first quarter, scoring 6 and 5 of the teams' 15 points, respectively. The quarter ended 18-15 in favour of the Gee-Gees.
  • The Gee-Gees turned up the heat in the second quarter securing a 10-point lead over the Lions. But, the Lions fought back scoring a total of 17 points to Ottawa's 19, ending the first half at 37-32 for the Gee-Gees.
  • Despite the continuous efforts of Kiara Leveridge and Jaz Balan, the third quarter concluded with the visitors leading 56-44.
  • In the crucial fourth quarter, the game intensified with the visitors vying for a win while York strived to narrow the margin. Katie Leudy's 2-point layup early in the 6th minute brought their score to 46. Kiara Leveridge followed with two successful 1-point free throws, pushing the score to 48.
  • However, tensions escalated as number 10, Leudy, earned her fifth and disqualifying foul. Leveridge's continued efforts added another 4 points, bringing the score to 52 with three minutes remaining. Despite the Lion's push, the game concluded with a final score of 71-57 in favour of the Gee-Gees.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will host the Carleton Ravens for their last home game before the winter break on December 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
