DIMANOCHIE, KAMUNGA LEAD LIONS TO SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

A game-high 29-point performance by Somto Dimanochie was all that the York University Lions men's basketball team needed to secure their fifth win of the season, as they defeated the Waterloo Warriors in a decisive 78-56 contest Wednesday night at Carl Totzke Court in Waterloo, Ont.

Dimanochie's 29-point night followed by Prince Kamunga's 19-points proved fatal for the Warriors with York dominating the full 40 minutes and ensuring no lead changes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A 21-14 first quarter set the tone for the Lions in their second last game of the season, as the team connected for four three-pointers compared to the Warrior's one-shot.
  • Despite the Warriors showing signs of life with a 17-14 third-quarter performance, and trimming it to a 53-46 contest, Dimanochie kept the momentum alive for York, as he combined for 13 points in the second and third quarters, keeping the Lions at top.
  • The Lions break into the fourth with a 9-1 run, grabbing a 62-47 lead in the first three minutes of the final quarter, which set the pace for a 25-10 quarter lead by a combined 19-point performance by Dimanochie and Kamunga which was enough to put the game to rest.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions will look to round out their 2022-23 OUA season on a high note when they take on the Algoma Thunderbirds on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the George Leach Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. The tip-off is slated for 5pm.
