LIONS SECOND-HALF RALLY SECURES 2-2 DRAW vs. LAURIER

The York University Lions women's soccer team found themselves trailing early in their season-opening match against the Laurier Golden Hawks Friday evening, but displayed some second-half resilience, battling back to secure a 2-2 draw at Alumni Stadium in Waterloo.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The match commenced with Laurier taking the reins of offensive action, registering five out of eight shots on goal. After several offensive attacks from the home side, one resulting in a penalty, Laurier striker Jyanessa Seal calmly converted from the spot, giving Laurier a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
  • It didn't take long for the Golden Hawks to strike once again, with Jada Johnson beating Ava Jones in the 29th minute, extending her team's lead to 2-0 at halftime.
  • However, the Lions weren't ready to back down. They came out with renewed energy and purpose in the second half, applying relentless pressure on Laurier's defence. That eventually paid off as Keira Kent, the TMU Bold transfer making her Lions debut, put them on the board in the 53rd minute, converting a penalty and cutting the Laurier lead in half.
  • With momentum seized, the Lions weren't finished just yet. Veteran Maia Torelli potted a goal of her own in the 59th minute to secure a 2-2 draw and earn a point for the Lions.

LOOKING AHEAD
