Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

LIONS DROP FIRST GAME OF IMPORTANT HOME-AND-HOME SERIES WITH MUSTANGS

The York University Lions women's soccer team dropped an all important home game against the visiting Western Mustangs on Friday evening at York Lions Stadium. A back-and-forth battle unfortunately did not play into the hands of the hard-working Lions as the visiting side earned a 3-2 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game began with a quick burst in the game's opening minute from the Lions as Maia Torelli challenged the Mustangs keeper, Samantha St. Croix, in a breakaway battle. Torelli capitalized on a loose rebound, setting the tone early.
  • The Mustangs were quick to even the scoreline six minutes later, finding a break in the Lions defensive line as Hannah Vickers driven cross would beat Charlotte Phillips to make it 1-1.
  • The Lions came out hot to start the second after giving up a late first-half goal to the Mustangs. Keira Kent's corner kick found the head of Serena McDonald as she directed it past St. Croix to bring the Lions level at 2-2.
  • An offensive back-and-forth battle eventually fell in favour of the Mustangs, as they were able to secure the 3-2 victory on a 66th-minute goal by Alessia Breda.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions look to find their footing after dropping the first game of the home-and-home against the Western Mustangs. The Lions head to London the rematch at 1:00pm on Sunday, Sept. 24.
