The York University Lions field hockey team faced off against the Guelph Gryphons on the Gryphons home field. The match showcased intense competition, marked by a high level of skill and determination on both sides. The York University Lions secured a victory, marking a significant achievement for the team this season with their third win in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game started in favour of the Guelph Gryphons with posession falling their way. Gryphons netminder Maryam Maamoun kept the Lions offence out making two key saves early on.
- Just 9 minutes into the 1st period, Geulph's Eva Cuddihy scored the opening goal for the Gryphons.
- The next two periods felt like a game of cat and mouse as both teams aimed for a goal.
- York's Juliet Redelaar earned the first Lions goal in the 40th minute, squaring the game at one a piece.
- At the height of the 4th period, Redelaar would again find the back of the net int he 48th minute, securing the winning goal for the York Lions.
- The York Lions fought hard to the end and secured a 2-1 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The York Lions will welcome the Waterloo Warriors to the Alumni Field, on Sunday, Sept. 24th. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
