After a victory in Guelph on Saturday, the York University Lions women's field hockey team made its return to Alumni Field to take on the Waterloo Warriors, the OUA's only other undefeated team.
The Lions did not disappoint, ultimately got the best of the Warriors in a 2-0 win, and now are the OUA's only unblemished bunch.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions made a strong opening statement. The game kicked off with an early penalty corner for York, resulting in a goal from Juliet Redelaar – her third in the last two games – just 35 seconds into the game. The goal, assisted by Natalie Winter, gave York an early 1-0 lead.
- The following periods saw a flurry of opportunities from both sides, with neither team altering the score. It wasn't until the third period, that Abby Thompson extended York's lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by Elyse Ives on a penalty corner.
- At the final whistle, the scoreboard remained unchanged, the Lions emerging victorious with a 2-0 win over the Warriors.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will look to maintain their stride next Sunday, Oct. 1, when they host a same-day doubleheader against the McGill Martlets. The first match is scheduled for 11:00 am, followed by the second contest at 3:00 pm.
