LIONS BLANKED IN SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH WITH TOUGH LOSS TO MARAUDERS

The York University Lions women's soccer team headed to Hamilton to face the West division-leading McMaster Marauders on Friday night. However, the game tilted in favour of the Marauders, who earned their fourth consecutive win with a solitary goal in the 70th minute, securing a 1-0 victory over the Lions

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The early portions of the match unfolded with the Lions facing sustained pressure in their half of the pitch, as the Marauders effectively controlled the ball in York's territory for the majority of the opening half.
  • Despite being outshot 4-0, the Lions managed to withstand the pressure to maintain a level score at the halftime whistle.
  • In the 70th minute, McMaster's Bryanna Caldwell successfully broke the deadlock, navigating through the Lions defence following a precise feed from Jade Abreo. She made no mistake and put McMaster up 1-0
  • Caldwell's goal stood as the game-winner, as McMaster went on to win by that same 1-0 scoreline.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will seek redemption at home against the Marauders in the second leg of their home-and-away series on Sunday, Oct. 1 at the York Lions Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 pm.
