The York University Lions women's basketball team remained on the road, in Kingston for a face-off against the Queen's Gaels. Eager to extend their win streak to a third victory, the team aims to build on their recent triumph over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks last night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The opening quarter witnessed the Gaels taking control of the scoreboard, swiftly reaching a 4-0 lead within the first two minutes. Bilan Khadar initiated the Lions' scoring with a well-executed jump shot, and in the closing 40 seconds, Katie Leudy's consecutive successful free throws played a pivotal role, ultimately helping York close the score at 21-11, in favour of the Gaels.
- The second quarter showcased the dominance of Queen's as the gap continued to widen, reaching an imposing 33-11. A comeback seemed challenging until Khadar intervened with a crucial three-point jump shot and Leudy's impressive two, three-point jump shots brought the score to 46-26 for halftime.
- Kiara Leveridge initiated the next quarter for York with a well-executed layup in the seventh minute, narrowing the gap to 52-28. This quarter proved to be intriguing, with a dynamic back-and-forth between both teams, showcasing robust defensive performances. This momentum continued with Green and Leveridge, further closing the gap to 60-40 in the last 30 seconds. The quarter concluded with a final score of 62-40 in favour of Queen's.
- As the final quarter unfolded, Khadar managed to put points on the scoreboard for York, responding to the Gaels' quick six-point start within the first two minutes. Ultimately, the game concluded with a score of 95-53 in favour of the hosts, securing a decisive 42-point victory for the Gaels.

The Lions are gearing up for a redemption opportunity as they return home to Tait McKenzie Centre to host the Brock Badgers on Friday, Jan. 19. Tip-off is at 6:00p.m.
