Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

STRONG FIRST THREE QUARTERS GOES FOR NAUGHT AS MARAUDERS WALK AWAY WITH VICTORY OVER LIONS

Coming into the evening off a win the night before, the Lions looked to lock in another victory on their home court. Facing a fierce McMaster side, the York University Lions men's basketball team were strong through three quarters, but their game dropped off in the final frame and McMaster took home the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • York started the game slower, as the Marauders got off on the right foot, but York never let them out of reach and kept the game close. Evan Shadkami put up nine points in the first 10 minutes, and the Marauders lead 17-15 heading into the next 10.
  • The Lions defence locked down around the key, and allowed their offensive game to step up, catching McMaster on quick transitions and getting the ball up court with speed. A two-way game allowed the Lions to take the lead at half 42-39.
  • Tyler Pryce recorded a five-point third quarter sinking 2-3 field goals and shooting 1-1 from the line. The pace of the game picked up as McMaster was seeking to keep themselves within arms reach of the Lions, as they took the third 19-16 but York remained ahead 58-55.
  • The Marauders flew out in the final quarter, shutting down the Lions offensive plans and finding the gaps through the defence. Kevinko Mervart shot 2-2 field goals and tried to keep his side energized but McMaster stepped up their game. The Marauders went on a run and ended the game with a 83-75 victory.

LOOKING AHEAD:

York are back on the road to face the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers in the North, starting their weekend on Friday, Jan. 26 against the Voyageurs with an 8:00 pm tip off.
