The York University Lions men's basketball team embarked on a road trip to face off against the Laurentian Voyageurs this Friday evening. They aimed to secure their seventh win this season following an unfortunate loss against the Western Mustangs last Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter opened with the Voyageurs immediately taking the lead, and York trailed 8-0. Evan Shadkami's efforts narrowed the gap, followed by Elias Panagiotopoulos's three free throws, bringing the score 8-5. The hosts created scoring chances for themselves while having some success keeping the Lions off the scoreboard. The first quarter concluded with the hosts leading 25-17.
- In the second quarter, Shadkami's three-point jump shot in the sixth minute closed the gap but York trailed by 16 points. Liam Rietschin and Shadkami continued to push, but Laurentian led 51-31, with York behind by 20 points at half.
- The third quarter started with Josh Noton sinking the first basket, followed by Panagiotopoulos free throws, closing the host's lead to 51-34. Tyler Pryce and Noton significantly contributed to making the score 53-41 with five minutes remaining, before ending the quarter with Laurentian in the lead, 60-49.
- The final quarter witnessed a remarkable turnaround for the Lions, marking a pivotal moment in the game. Despite trailing by 13 points, York mounted a stunning comeback led by Shadkami and Noton, whose consecutive scoring tied the game at 72-72 with just four minutes remaining. The tension remained palpable as the teams battled neck and neck, with every second building anticipation. Noton's crucial free throws propelled York into the lead, securing a thrilling 76-74 victory over the hosts and marking their seventh win of the season.

The Lions embark on another road trip tomorrow, Jan. 27, aiming to extend their winning streak as they face off against the Nipissing Lakers on their home court. Tip-off is at 8:00p.m.
