LIONS SPLIT NORTHERN ROAD SWING WITH VICTORY OVER LAKERS

Turning around after a tough Friday evening loss to the Voyageurs, the York University Lions women's basketball team faced off against the Nipissing Lakers. In much need of a win and break a four game losing streak, the Lions earned a hard fought road win  88-69.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Kiara Leveridge got the ball rolling for the Lions securing the first two points of the game and some back and forth possession kept the game close. York extended their lead 28-15 after the first.
  • The second quarter was all Lakers who worked their way back into the game and created a strong offensive drive, earning 24 points and bringing the game back within reach 43-39 in favour of the visiting Lions.
  • York regrouped at half time and Leveridge combined with Gabby Di Pietro to score 15 of the 25 points of the quarter. Di Pietro was 1-1 from the free throw line and made 2-3 field goals, securing a third quarter victory and extending the lead 68-50.
  • The Lakers created an intense battle in the final quarter as they tried to get their way back into the game but the Lions were a cohesive unit. Bilan Khadar secured 16 points, Di Pietro was 3-3 from the free throw line earning 18 points and Leveridge led the way with 23 points on the evening. The Lions recorded their third victory of the season 88-69 on the road against the Lakers.
