LIONS ROAR PAST RAVENS IN OVERTIME TO REEL OFF THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Coming off two straight strong wins against the TMU Bold and Guelph Gryphons, the York University Lions women's hockey team faced off against the Carleton Ravens on Friday night in the first of two games in the nation's capital this weekend. The Lions were looking to move above .500 for the first time on the young season.

Carelton drew first blood three minutes into the first period, as Emma Bradbury stole the puck in the neutral zone, moved in and buried the opening goal. The Ravens also had three power play opportunities compared to the Lions one, but the teams went a combined 0-for-4 on the power play, leaving it 1-0 after twenty minutes.

York went on a power play twice in the second period, but could not find the equalizer. Play remained extremely tight, with both teams playing extremely well defensively. The Ravens made a push toward the end of the period, but could not extend the lead, and the score remained 1-0 Carleton after 40.

In an intense last five minutes, the Lions had a huge opportunity, and Isabela Huculak tapped home a rebound in front to tie it 1-1. The deadlock remained through regulation, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, it was York's Alexa Giantsopoulos who completed the comeback, finding space in behind the Raven defence, streaking in alone and potting the game-winner to give the Lions a 2-1 victory, their third consecutive win.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions remain in the capital city to face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on a quick turnaround, with puck drop at 3:00pm on Saturday afternoon. Coverage will be available on OUA TV.
