The York University Lions women's hockey team continued their southwestern Ontario swing on Saturday night in Windsor against the Lancers. The Lions were looking to build upon their 3-0 victory over the Mustangs on Friday night, with a victory over the Lancers bringing them back to the .500 mark at 5-5.
The Lancers were rewarded a power play 12:36 in, when Isabela Huculak was assessed a tripping penalty. York killed off the penalty, and the game was scoreless after 20 minutes.
Dielle Hall-Paradis was sent to the box for body-checking with four seconds remaining, meaning Windsor would open the 2nd period with a 5-on-4 advantage. The scoing floodgates opened in the 2nd period, as the teams combined for three goals. While Windsor wasn't able to score ontheir power play to open the period, they would score just over three minutes in, when Rylee Hogan hauled in passes from Madison Hollohan and Phoebe Gao and put it home past the skate of Emma Wedgewood to put the Lancers up 1-0.
York found the equalizer just 38 seconds later. Pressuring in the Lancers zone, Ava Ricker-Singh pitched the puck up the right wing right where Alexa Giantsopoulos took the pass and fired it right between the legs of Rebecca Noble and in. That tied things up at 1-1
Windsor would re-take the lead nearly 10 minutes later. The Lancers Makayla Mailhot found a puck in a scramble in the York crease and give the Lancers a 2-1 advantage they would take into the third.
The Lancers would extend their lead but ten seconds into the third period. Windsor won the face-off and Elissa Benjamin delivered the puck to Emily Eikelboom, whose shot found the back of the net to extend Windsor's edge to 3-1.
Windsor put the game out of reach at the 13:20 mark, taking advantage of a power play opportunity. Bridget Cameron was as at the top of York's zone when she took in a pass from Benjamin and ptu it past Wedgewood, extending their lead to 4-1.
Just over a minute later, the Lions would respond. The Lions would hold the power play advantage as after Noble blocked an initial shot, Natasha Lange would beat Noble to cut their deficit to two.
However, that was as close as they would get, as the Lancers took a 4-2 victory to sweep the season series from York.
