LIONS BANK POINT IN SHOOTOUT LOSS TO PATRIOTES

The York University Lions men's hockey team made its first trip into Quebec this season, as they battled last year's national runners-up, the UQTR Patriotes in Trois-Rivières on Saturday afternoon. The Lions were looking for their second consecutive win after a 2-1 overtime win last Saturday over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.

York opened the scoring late in the first period with Keeton Oakley finding the back of the net with just five seconds remaining in the first, assisted by Klim Georgiev and Hunter Brown.

UQTR responded with a strong second period, as Conor Frenette scored at 12:13, followed by a goal from Charles-Antoine Pilote with exactly two minutes left, putting the Patriotes up 2-1 through two.

York fought back to tei it early in the third, with Harry Clark scoring at 4:46, assisted by Mason Svarich and Chase Sandhu, levelling the score 2-2. That early-third-period goal sent the game into overtime, and, eventually a shootout. The lone goal of the shootout came on its final attempt, as UQTR's Pier-Olivier Roy deked out York's goalie Carter Serhyenko and slid it home for the game winner and a 3-2 Patriotes victory. Serhyenko made 35 saves on 37 shots during regulation and overtime, plua five saves in the shootout. Meanwhile, UQTR's William Grimard stopped 26 of 28, plus all six shootout shots he faced.
