LIONS, VARSITY BLUES PLAY TO SCORELESS DRAW

The York University Lions field hockey team made the trip down Line 1 on Saturday afternoon for the first of a season-ending home-and-home series with the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Both teams were looking for their fifth straight victories, after they both took down the Queen's Gaels and McGill Martlets in their previous four games, all of which were shutout victories. The Lions were going for their seventh shutout of the season, having not allowed a goal in any of their six victories.

The game ended in a scoreless tie, with neither team able to find the back of the net. This provides some clarity in the standings heading into the final day of the regular season. With this draw, the Lions have clinched top spot in the OUA East, and will face the loser of Sunday's Waterloo-Guelph game in the OUA semi-finals.

The winner of that game will host the OUA final four beginning next Saturday. If that game ends in a draw, Waterloo will earn top spot with an 8-1-1 record, while York and Guelph will meet in the semis for a fourth straight year.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will host the Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon in the season finale on senior day at Alumni Field. The game begins at 2:00 pm, and admission is free.
