LIONS RALLY TO BEAT BOLD IN FINALE OF FOUR-GAME SEASON-OPENING HOMESTAND

The York University Lions women's hockey team concluded a four-game season-opening homestand on Sunday evening against the TMU Bold, hoping to build on the momentum from Saturday night's win over Waterloo. York was looking to move to 3-1 on the young season, while TMU came in searching for their first victory of the season after an 0-1-1 start.

TMU opened the scoring in the first period, with Katie Leroux netting her first of the season at 12:18, assisted by Gaby Gareau and Ava Caputo. Then, 19 seconds later, Dayle Chinnick added another goal for TMU, giving the Bold an early 2-0 lead. Kayla Kondo drew the only assist on Chinnick's first of the year. York responded just 1:09 later at 13:46 with Alexa Giantsopoulos scoring on a setup from Ginger Fast, cutting the deficit to 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.

York then tied it up early in the second period when Kaitlin Teixeira scored unassisted at 1:27 after stripping the puck off a Bold defender. The score remained 2-2 after two, but in the third period, York took their first lead with Makenzi Jones scoring her first career OUA goal, with Molly Battram earning the lone assist. Just beyond the halfway mark of the final frame, Julianna Duma added some insurance at 10:51, netting a rebound off a Clara Liu point shot, giving Liu her first OUA point.

Both teams had strong offensive pressure, with York firing 32 shots to TMU's 30. Goaltenders Emma Wedgewood and Sydney Pyburn made 28 saves apiece, keeping the game competitive throughout, with the Lions skating away winners by a 4-2 count.

LOOKING AHEAD:

York will travel to Mattamy Athletic Centre for a rematch with TMU on Friday, October 24, wrapping up the season series between the two local squads. Puck drop scheduled for 11:15 am, in what will be the Bold's school day game, and will be York's first road game of the season.
