The York University Lions women's volleyball team faced the TMU Bold in the second game of their season-opening doubleheader on Friday night. The Lions lost the first match on Thursday night in straight sets and were looking to bounce back in this one and even their record on the season.
The opening moments were a back-and-forth battle until the score was tied at 7-7. The Lions went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead, but the Bold quickly responded with a run of their own to even things up at 12-12. The set continued in a similar fashion with both teams trading points before the Bold narrowly took the set 28-26 in a nail-biting opening frame to give TMU a 1-0 lead. Yulia Glazko led the Lions in kills for the first with three.
The Lions started the second strong taking an early 5-3 lead, Glazko put two points on the board early on, but the Bold responded with a run 3-1 run and tied the game 6-6, the Lions maintained the composure and extended their lead to 9-6. However, the Bold tied things at 10-10 and after thing were tied at 18-18 the Bold took control the rest of the set and won it 25-20 to put them up 2-0.
York dominated the third set from start to finish, winning convincingly 25-12, Victoria Herrington was instrumental, recording multiple kills and forcing several errors from the Bold, as the Lions got on the board and staved off the sweep, trailing 2-1 heading to the fourth.
After being outplayed in the third set, the Bold responded strongly in the fourth, taking it 25-20 to secure a 3-1 victory and sweep the weekend doubleheader. Herrington led the Lions with 14 kills, while Glazko and Kianna Drewniak followed with nine
