The York University Lions women's volleyball team hosted the Queens Gaels at Tait McKenzie Centre on Friday night. The Lions came into this game off their bye week, getting back at after splitting two games with Toronto Varsity Blues on Nov. 7 and 8. York dropped the second match in straight sets, and were looking to bounce back with their second win of the year. The Gaels, on the other hand, came into this game 3-3 and were looking to go above the .500 mark.

After taking an early 2-1 lead, the Gaels went on an 11-0 run. The Lions managed to stop the Gaels' momentum and went on a 5-2 run on their own, but it was not enough as the Gaels took the set 25-15. Kathie Mathieu led the team with three digs and a kill.

The second set was evenly-matched early, with the teams splitting the first eight points. The Gaels then went on another run, scoring 10 of the next 11 points to take a commanding 14-5 lead. They took the second set 25-8 to go up 2-0 and put the Lions on the brink.

It was an intense back-and-forth in the third set, as the Lions hung tough with the Gaels. They battled back from down 7-3 early in the set to take leads of 18-16 and 20-18. However, the Gaels responded by scoring seven of the match's final nine points and took the third set 25-22 to win in straight sets.

Julia Typa led the Lions in kills with seven, while Alexis Miller had a pair of blocks.
