This afternoon, York University's women's volleyball team faced the Queen's Gaels, hoping to rebound after last night's 0–3 loss.
In the first set, Queen's struck early with the opening kill by Abigail McAlpine. Attack errors from the Gaels allowed the Lions to get on the board, but Queen's maintained control throughout, delivering powerful hits that made it difficult for York to keep pace. The set ultimately went to the Gaels, sealed with a kill from Claire Carter. By the end of the set, York's Madison McRae and Queen's McAlpine held the most kills for their teams.
The second set began with a momentum building block by Carter, giving the Gaels an early lead. However, the Lions fought back, eventually taking the set's final point with a kill by Yulia Glazko. Queen's remained in control until an attack by Alexis Miller reignited the Lions' energy, narrowing the score to 17–21. Digging in, the Lions tied the set at 22–22. A block by Julia Typa, an attack error by Tasmin Murno, and a kill from Glazko secured the set for York, 25–22.
Optimism returned for the Lions in the third set. A block by Glazko and McRae earned the first point, followed by an attack error from McAlpine. The Lions held the lead for the entire set, and McRae delivered the decisive kill to close it out.
The fourth set showcased both teams' competitive fire. A kill by McAlpine put the Gaels on the board first, but the Lions quickly took control and never let go. They continued to strengthen with every defensive stand. A kill by York's Julia Typa and an attack error by Giselle Wong sealed the set for the Lions, 25–16.
With a strong comeback performance, the Lions claimed the match with a 3–1 victory.
