LIONS LOSE TO LAURENTIAN IN SECOND GAME OF NORTHERN ONTARIO VOYAGE

The York University Lions women's basketball team concluded their two-game northern road swing Saturday night in Sudbury against the Laurentian Voyageurs. With the Lions coming in fresh off a win over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday, they looked to keep their momentum going and stack up more wins as the fall term nears its conclusion.

The Lions struggled to get their offence going early, going down 10-2 to open the game, forcing a timeout from head coach Christa Eniojukan. Gabby Di Pietro contributed nine of the 16 Lions points in the first quarter, helping cut the deficit to 20-16 after one. Akuach Buang drilled a three in the first, as did Di Pietro.

Outscoring the Voyageurs 17-14 in the second quarter, the Lions were able to keep it close. Ella Okubasu had nine of her own off the bench, and Di Pietro and Kiara Leveridge both hit threes to bring York within a point, 34-33, at halftime.

Laurentian started the third quarter on a 10-2 run, putting more pressure on the Lions. Laurentian outscored the Lions 21-11 in the third, putting them in a double-digit 55-44 hole, needing a big fourth quarter.

The Lions offence could not string together any sustained runs in the fourth, allowing the Voyageurs to maintain their lead. Leveridge did finally break into double digit scoring in the quarter, joining Di Pietro and Okubasu, but no other Lions player had more than four.

The majority of Laurentian's scoring came from Claudia Pellerin and Emilie Lafond, combining for 43 points on the night. The Voyageurs won it, 74-59, dropping the Lions to 5-3 on the season.
