LIONS EARN ROAD WIN TO OPEN WEEKEND SERIES AT RMC

Fresh off a strong showing against Queen's last weekend, the York University Lions women's volleyball team hit the road for crucial back-to-back matches in Kingston. With both teams fighting through challenging starts to the season, this weekend provides an opportunity for a meaningful push in the standings.

RMC came out strong, hitting an impressive .476 in the opening set. York struggled to settle offensively, despite early contributions from Julia Typa and Alexis Miller, who each chipped in key swings. Victoria Herrington added several early kills, but RMC's clean attack held the advantage throughout the set and they took it 25-18.

York responded with far more rhythm in the second. Setter Emma Serlin took control, distributing 43 assists on the night and adding two aces. Herrington found her groove, leading the offense with powerful swings, while Madi Vickerson and Typa combined for timely side-outs. York's improved serve pressure and steadier passing helped them even the match 1-1, taking the set 25-21.

The third set belonged to the Lions' attackers. Herrington produced standout swings on the left, reaching double-digit kills early on. Miller added to the momentum with strong serving, finishing the night with five aces, while Typa and Yulia Glazko contributed balanced offense. Vickerson's key digs and block touches helped York to take a 2-1 lead, taking the third set 25-22.

York closed out the match with their cleanest hitting performance of the night. Herrington capped off a dominant outing, finishing with 17 kills, 12 digs, and 21 points, while Miller delivered her most efficient swings to total 12 kills. Vickerson and Typa added steady offense and defensive stability, and libero Kate Mathieu anchored a strong passing game with 25 digs. York's composure in serve-receive and their ability to capitalize in transition sealed the win.

LOOKING AHEAD:
With this win under their belt, the Lions look to extend their streak as they return to the court tomorrow for the second matchup of the weekend against RMC. The match is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
