LIONS DROP FINAL HOME GAME OF 2025 TO TMU

The York University Lions men's hockey team hit the ice for the final game of their five-game homestand on Sunday afternoon at Canlan Ice Sports, hosting the TMU Bold for the second and final time this season. Sunday marked the Lions annual Pride Game as part of OUA Hockey Pride Week, which included a pregame ceremony a ceremony, on a day meant to support an important cause to the York men's hockey family.

The Lions ramped up the pressure early with a flurry of shots on net in opening minutes of action. However, the Bold were able to settle in and gain control. The first goal of the game came from Chase Lefebvre flying down the left wing and firing a low wrist shot past Lions goaltender Matt Tovell, giving TMU a 1-0 lead at the 5:09 mark. Olivier Lamothe later nearly found the equalizer off a breakaway from a tipped pass, but his shot clanged off the right post, keeping the TMU up 1-0 after one.

The Bold got their second off the stick of Daniil Grigorev, who tapped home a rebound, putting them up 2-0 at the 3:33 mark of the period. Later, a lead pass found Spencer Shugrue on the right wing all alone, and he went five-hole on Tovell, making it a 3-0 game. During a stint of 4-on-4 hockey, TMU's Marko Djordjevic found himself on a breakaway and made it a 4-0 game after 40.

The Lions finally broke Kai Edmonds' goose-egg at the 9:09 mark of the third, as Owen Gilhula weaved into the middle of the ice and roofed one. The unassisted goal cuting the deficit to 4-1. TMU was able to get it right back, though, as Lefebvre netted his second of the game, before Joseph Ianniello rounded out the scoring with just under five minutes remaining as the Lions fell by a score of 6-1.

The Lions close out the fall term against Windsor Lancers in the border city on Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm, with coverage on OUA TV.
