The York University Lions men's hockey team made a Friday evening trip to the Columbia Icefield to take on the Waterloo Warriors.
In the opening period, the Lions hit the ice with high energy and relentless effort, which paid off early as Owen Gilhula found the back of the net to give the Lions a 1-0 lead that held through the first.
Early in the second period, the Warriors answered with an equalizer to make it 1-1. Despite several close chances on both sides, the score remained tied heading into the third, with tensions running high on the ice.
The final period featured end-to-end action and plenty of scoring opportunities. The teams traded goals throughout, with the Lions pulling ahead and the Warriors responding each time, sending the game into overtime knotted at 3-3.
In the extra frame, the Warriors capitalized on a chance and secured the 4-3 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will now turn their attention to Sunday, when they will face off against the Toronto Varsity Blues on home ice at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena with puck drop scheduled for 2:00 pm.
