LIONS FALL TO VARSITY BLUES IN FOUR SET GRIND

The York University men's volleyball team hosted their local rivals the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in their home opener this Friday evening.

The Varsity Blues wasted no time establishing control, launching an early 4-0 run in the first set that immediately set the tone. Their dominant start paved the way for a swift 25-20 victory to claim the opening frame.

The second set followed a similar trajectory, with the Blues maintaining their lead for most of the frame, ultimately closing it out 25-22 to secure a two-set advantage.

Facing a significant deficit, the Lions roared back with exceptional intensity in the third. Their rally was fueled by a blistering .476 team hitting percentage and critical contributions from Colby Soolsma and Alex Dorling. The Lions decisively claimed the set, 25-20.

However, the momentum shift was short-lived. Toronto quickly regained control in the fourth set, leveraging a balanced offensive attack and timely service runs. They sealed the set 25-21, securing the match victory, 3-1.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Up next, the Lions will look to bounce back as they take on the Varsity Blues again tomorrow evening. Game two of the weekend series is set for 8:00 pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
