LATE GOAL HANDS LIONS FIRST LOSS OF 2025 TO WARRIORS

On this Sunday afternoon, the York University Lions women's field hockey team were back on home soil, where they battled the Waterloo Warriors at Alumni Field.

Anticipation was in the air as these two teams, both coming off wins Saturday, faced off. Both teams were eager and looking to add another triumph to their records.

Early in the second quarter, Waterloo was able to open the scoring on a tally from Meagan Hobson. However, four minutes later, in a scramble in front of the Warriors' goal, Kathryn Carlow continued her hot start with the equalizer, tying it at 1-1. Each side continued to deliver relentless defence that led to the tie at the end of the half.

In the last minutes of the match, Waterloo's Sierra Blackburn was able to weave through the Lions defence and net the winning goal. The Warriors held to secure the win by a final score of 2-1, handing York its first loss of the season.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions will prepare to host the McGill Martlets in a pair of games next weekend. Saturday's game begins at 3:00 pm, while Sunday's game will begin at 11:00 am. Admission for both games is free.
