YORK'S WIN STREAK CONTINUES, ONTARIO TECH DEFEATED

The York University women's basketball team hit the road to Oshawa today to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, carrying momentum and a win streak into the match the Lions were ready to ball.

As the clock started counting down in the opening quarter, Ella Okubasu sparked the Lions with multiple early layups, helping York jump out to a quick lead within the opening minutes. The Lions continued to capitalize off turnovers, with Kiara Leveridge and Alexis Grewal creating steals that turned into points at the other end. Ontario Tech struggled to find rhythm against York's defense, relying on second-chance opportunities and free throws to stay within reach. Despite a brief scoring push from the Ridgebacks, York maintained control. The Lions closed the quarter firmly in front, heading into the second with a 20–13 advantage.

Ontario Tech found their footing in the second quarter, using perimeter shooting and free throws to steadily cut into York's lead and apply pressure. The Ridgebacks briefly gained momentum as the quarter wore on, forcing the Lions to battle through a physical stretch. York answered with poise, as Grewal knocked down a late three and the Lions leaned on strong defensive efforts from Leveridge and Okubasu to stay in front. Despite the back-and-forth finish, York held on to a slim edge, heading into halftime with a 33–32 lead.

The third quarter saw Grewal and Okubasu keep the Lions poised with key jump shots and offensive rebounds, while Leveridge and Niamh Heath contributed with timely defensive plays. Ontario Tech briefly seized the lead, but York stayed within striking distance, ending the quarter narrowly behind 37–39.

The final quarter saw York pull ahead with consistent scoring from Okubasu, Heath, and Katie Leudy, combining jumpers, layups, and free throws. By the final buzzer, York had stretched the gap, finishing strong at 65–53, securing another crucial regular season win.
