LIONS BEAT EXCALIBUR IN FIVE SETS TO OPEN SIX-GAME HOMESTAND

The York University Lions women's volleyball team finally returned home for the first time in almost two months, as they hosted the Trent Excalibur on a snowy Friday night at the Tait McKenzie Centre, The Lions came into this one looking to bounce back after a pair of losses to the Windsor Lancers last weekend.

The Lions immediately set the tone going an early 3-0 run through kills from Victoria Herrington and Quincy Johnson. The Lions capitalized on Trent's miscues and showed defensive grit, notably at the net with Alexandra McIssac coming up with several blocks. The Lions dominated the first set from start to finish taking the set 25-16 and take a 1-0 lead.

The second set started more competitively with Trent taking an early lead in the set, scoring four unanswered points, before Quincy Johnson ended the run at 8-5. The Lions took their first lead at 11-10 thanks to a couple of miscues by the Excalibur. The Lions went on an impressive 11-2 run, with Herrington and Johnson once again showing their offensive prowess. The Lions eventually took the set by an identical 25-16 score to go up 2-0.

After the teams split the first two points of the third, the Excalibur went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Trent pulled away midway through the set and took the third 25-14 to avoid the sweep.

The Lions went on an early 7-0 run in the fourth set after allowing the first point. The Excalibur didn't back down however, rallying to eventually tie it at 15. They then took their first lead a point later and led 18-15. After the Lions tied it by scoring the next three, the visitors responded went on to take it 25-23 to tie the match at two apiece.

The Lions dominated the final set, leading by as many as four at 7-3 midway through the fifth. They wouldn't look back from there, taking the decider 15-10 to pick up their fifth win of the year. Herrington led the game in kills with 12, while Alexandra McIsaac led in blocks with five.
