The York University Lions men's hockey team returns to home ice at Canlan Ice Sports York this weekend for two critical matchups featuring a mix of community advocacy and divisional rivalries. The weekend begins on Friday evening with the Roar for the Cure game against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Beyond the competitive action on the ice, Friday's matchup is a central part of the Lions Roar for the Cure initiative, run alongside the annual U SPORTS Shoot for the Cure campaign. The money raised from this event helps fuel groundbreaking research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer, and saving lives. You can contribute to this year's fundraising goal by donating online through the official York Lions team page

In terms of the matchup itself, the Lions and Thunderwolves have a history of close competition this year. Earlier this season, the two teams traded wins, with the Lions securing a hard-fought 5-4 overtime victory before later suffering a 4-1 loss. Friday's game will serve as a definitive tiebreaker for the season series.

The action continues Saturday evening at 7:00 pm as the Lions host the Windsor Lancers. This game is framed by a quest for redemption, as the Lancers have bested the Lions three times already this season. With the home-ice advantage at Canlan Ice Sports, the Lions will be looking to flip the script and secure a win against one of their toughest opponents this year. Fans are encouraged to come out for both nights to support the team and the Roar for the Cure campaign.
