The York University women's volleyball team hosted the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the first game of a weekend doubleheader on Friday night.Â
Early in the opening set, both teams traded points back and forth early, remaining at deadlock until 4-4. The Thunderwolves then went on a 3-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. However, the Lions responded with a 3-0 run of their own to tie the set at 7-7. The Thunderwolves then put their foot on the gas and went on an 8-3 run and continued to control the set en route to 25-18 and taking set 1 of the match.Â
The Lions came in storming going on an early 3-0 run. The Thunderwolves came back and tied the game. The Lions went on another 3-0 run going on a 7-4 run. The Thunderwolves would then answer back and not look back taking the set 25-19.Â
Quincy Johnson got a point for the Lions early in the third set with an early kill and block. Both teams traded points back and forth until the Lions went on a run thanks to offensive displays from Johnson and Julia Typa. Just as it looked like the Lions were running away with a victory in this set, the Thunderwolves came back to tie it at 19-19. Despite the last-minute scare, the Lions went on a 6-2 run to avoid the sweep and take the third set.Â
The Thunderwolves controlled the fourth set, winning 25-16 and clinching the game three sets to one.Â
