LIONS SWEPT BY LANCERS TO OPEN NEW YEAR

On Friday, the York University Lions women's volleyball team went head-to-head with the Windsor Lancers. Known as a strong competitor, Windsor posed a tough challenge for the Lions, especially after York fell to the Lancers during the 2023-24 season.

In the opening set, Windsor struck first and quickly built an early lead. After a kill by Lancers' Geneva Huisman made the score 10–3, the Lions began to lock in. A kill by Madison McRae helped spark momentum for York as they attempted to close the gap. However, despite the push, the Lions were unable to catch up.

The second set saw York take control early, earning the first point with a kill from Peyton Dougherty. The Lions maintained their lead until a service error by Dougherty gave Windsor their sixth point, bringing the score to 8–6 in York's favour and shifting momentum toward the Lancers. A kill by Windsor's Danika Scharff tied the set at 10–10, followed by another kill from Aliah Admans that helped Windsor pull ahead. A final kill by Raiya Millian sealed the set for the Lancers, 25–23.

Heading into the third set, Admans once again opened the scoring for Windsor. The Lancers maintained control throughout the set, never relinquishing their lead. Windsor secured the match with a 25–14 win after a service error by Alexis Miller.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will return to Windsor's home court tomorrow evening on January 10, playing for a better result. With the match time set for 1:00pm, coverage will be available on OUA TV.
