The York University Lions women's hockey team looked to build momentum and secure their first win of the 2026–27 season on Friday night as they faced the Waterloo Warriors. After dropping back-to-back games against Western and Windsor to open the season, the Lions entered the matchup hoping to find some offence, compete for every opportunity and turn their strong stretches of play into a positive result.
Waterloo opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the first period, with Brodie Levitt having a puck bounce off her in the crease and in to give the Warriors an early advantage. The Lions were unable to find the equalizer before the end of the opening period, and trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The Warriors continued to put pressure on York in the second period. Around the eight-minute mark, Levitt put home a rebound in front off an Ashlyn Kroes shot to make it 2-0 Waterloo. York looked to find an answer to Waterloo's attacking pressure, but the Lions remained down 2-0 after two.
In the final frame, York looked to battle back and create opportunities to reduce the deficit. The Lions continued working to generate offence and shift the momentum in their favour, but Waterloo maintained its advantage. Despite York's efforts to respond, the Warriors held on to their lead to secure the 2-0 victory.
