The York Lions Women's Soccer team will start their playoff run this Saturday, October 24th at York Lions stadium when they host the Brock Badgers in one of the four OUA Quarterfinal matches taking place this weekend. York received a bye in round one after finishing as a top two seed in their conference, while other teams like Brock faced off in Round 1 of the OUA Playoffs.Â
Brock advanced to the Quarterfinals following their 1-0 win over the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday. Now they'll face off against the York Lions with the winner advancing into the OUA Semi-Finals. Â
These two teams only met once during the regular season, and it was a recent meeting. About two weeks ago, York hosted and defeated the Brock Badgers on the Lions Senior Night honouring their graduating players. Now, the two sides meet again with their seasons on the line.Â
York won that match by a score of 1-0, with Sabrina Fabiano scoring the only goal of that game in the 47th minute of the second half. York generated more chances throughout the night also, with 13 total shots (eight on target) to Brock's six (three on target). Â
Neither of these teams have been offensive powerhouses throughout this season, with both averaging under two goals per contest. Defense has been the name of the game as evidenced by the 1-0 final in their last meeting.Â
Defensively, these teams have been nearly identical so far. Both York and Brock have given up the exact same number of goals this season with seven in 12 total contests, good for an average of 0.58 goals allowed per contest. In addition, the number of clean sheets is also nearly identical, with Brock registering seven clean-sheets on the season to York's six, although one of York's came against this same Brock squad. Brock also has more saves on the season with 63 total compared to York's 59. Â
The winner of the York vs Brock Quarterfinal will go on to face the winner of the Ottawa vs Ontario Tech Quarterfinal. The two winners would face off with a birth to the OUA Championship as well as the U Sports Championship on the line.Â
The game is scheduled to kick-off on Saturday at York Lions Stadium for 6:15 PM EST. Tickets to support the Lions will be on sale at yorkulions.ca/tickets. The Quarterfinal match will also be available to stream on OUA.tv.Â
