A Saturday night under the lights at Windsor's Alumni Stadium gave the York Lions football team another opportunity to break out of its recent slump. After opening the season with a win, York entered the matchup looking to find its footing again against a Windsor Lancers team that had begun building momentum of its own. The Lions had dropped their previous three games heading into the contest, while Windsor arrived on a two-game winning streak after victories over Waterloo and Toronto. Â
Windsor came out quickly on Saturday night. The Lancers put together an 80-yard drive on their opening possession, finishing it with a touchdown to take an early lead.Â
York struggled to respond offensively, and Windsor added another touchdown after driving 70 yards on its fourth possession. The Lancers continued to find the end zone before the end of the opening quarter, taking a 21–0 advantage into the second.Â
Windsor added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 90-yard drive that ended in the end zone. York was unable to put points on the board before halftime, leaving the Lions facing a 35–0 deficit.Â
The Lancers continued to extend their lead after the break. Windsor scored a touchdown early in the third quarter before York was forced into a safety later in the frame. Another safety followed as the Lancers maintained control of the game.Â
York entered the fourth quarter trailing 46–2. The Lions struggled to generate a sustained offensive response, while Windsor added a field goal during the final quarter. The Lancers ultimately secured a 51–2 victory.Â
LOOKING AHEAD:Â
York will now return home to prepare for its next matchup against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Lions will host Ottawa on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.Â
