Coming off a strong win against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Lions women's volleyball team went on the road for an early afternoon clash against the Western Mustangs. Today, being the first of the last two games of the regular season, the Lions were looking to finish off their campaign strong against a tough opponent. 

The Lions trailed 5-0 in the opening of the first set. Midway through the set though, the Lions were able to crawl back after a slow start and tie it up at 15-15, as Madison McRae and Yulia Glazko dropped multiple kills to reclaim momentum. Out of a timeout, Western took the lead back, and went on a 10-4 run to close out the set 25-19 to go up 1-0. 

York again found themselves down early in the second, trailing 8-2 and calling a timeout. Five unanswered points from the Mustangs out of the break led to another Lions timeout, in a set where the home team took full control. Western continued to pour it on, taking advantage of Lions errors and amassing 12 kills to easily take the set 25-4, going up 2-0. 

The Lions were able to hang around early in the third, backed by kills from Alexis Miller and McRae to keep it close at 7-7. Out of a timeout, Western started to pull away with the lead yet again, as York's offense began to stall. Although the Lions rallied a near conclusion of the set, the Mustangs stifled out any other York attacks to finish the set 25-15, taking the match with a 3-0 sweep.

The Lions will return for a rematch with the Mustangs on Sunday, February 8th. The match is set for 2:00 pm, with coverage on OUA TV.
